Design Statement - Single Paint Stripe

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

Remember this image (Kim Coleman Design) from this Creative Decorating Ideas post? There are many things to like about this room, but one of the things that stood out to me was the way they painted the turquoise paint stripe under the ceiling molding and above the floor molding. Small detail with major impact.

I still love the idea and since then have run across just a few more examples of how a single paint stripe can be used to make an impact. The great thing about it is that it would take very little time or money to do, but it can make a room!

Two simple choices here, to use a bold color for the stair runner rather than a neutral and to repeat that color in a simple stripe of paint above the molding, make this a stand-out staircase.

The single stripe in this boys bedroom unifies it and takes it to the next level.

Combining a single stripe with the picture frames is a great idea, isn't it?

Wendy at The Shabby Nest used a single paint stripe to create the illusion of width in her sons' narrow bedroom. Isn't it a cute room? You can see the rest of it here.

I don't have an image for this, but in a room with very high ceilings, a single paint stripe painted lower (at average ceiling height) can be used to stop your eye and keep it at room level.

Have you used a single paint stripe to make a design statement in your home? If not, where/how would you use one (or not?)...

Have a great weekend!

Today its four years ago since I made my first post. Four wonderful and unbelievable years. I remember that the first post was a little bit nervous to do. But then it just went on and on for years. Today thousands of you reads my blog every day. I have also met many wonderful and inspiring new friends. I'm really grateful for that and also for all the lovely comments and mail that I get. Thank you guys for making my day.. every every day!!

It Wasn't Easy Getting To The Willow Ball

Our day started out at the beach......
Everything was just fine until Cary said that he wanted to meet with some producers on an up-coming film.
Instead of going to the party tonight.
I wasn't happy at all.
Cary had promised a long time ago that he would attend The WILLOW BALL with me!!!
As we drove back to the hotel.......
Here he is again trying to persuade me to go to dinner with his friends and associates.
I explained that I have been waiting all year to attend The Willow Ball with him.
I started to tear up......
Cary gave in.....temporary as may have been.....
he caved.
Of course....just like a man...
he was trying to get me to promise that we could leave early after making an appearance.
He said we could still meet with his friends later-
after the party.
I was standing my ground...
I wanted to dance and stay until dawn if the party lasted that long.
And then......
Cary pulls up in this!!!!!
He knew this would send me right over the edge.
"NO WAY" I said,
I am not going to The Willow Ball in that crazy sardine can car.
"I won't I tell you,
I WON'T!!!!"

Well....I did and we arrived right on time.
You should have seen the movies stars that were there!!!
You still can if you go here.
Don't you know, Cary decided to dance like a mad man.
With, or without me.
I asked him to stop and spend some time with me....
He did.
Honestly, it is almost impossible to say no to him.
Could you????
We were definitely not having our best night together!!!
He was still working on me to leave and meet up with his friends.
I was standing my ground.
Cary said..."You said you wanted to dance"
"Now let's dance!"
After a few rounds on the dance floor and drinks with his fellow movie star friends,
I agreed to leave.
In spite of our emotionally charged night,
the party was outstanding and Willow had amazing food, drink and beautiful decor.
Her Manor Home rivaled Mara Largo for entertaining.

We gracefully said our goodbyes and thanked Willow for inviting us (ME).
Cary then drove me home in the sardine can car......
10 seconds long
See how the evening ended in this video.

My question to you is this;
'Could you say no to Cary?'

Valspar Metal Paint

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

I know this probably isn't of interest to anyone since no one in blogland ever spray paints anything! :-), but I thought I would share it in case. Have you used Valspar Metal Paint before? I tried some out tonight on an old curtain rod that I was tired of the finish on and I really like it. I used the Valspar Metal (Interior) spray paint in Graphite. It has a very nice color and metallic finish. And, no, they're not paying me to say this. Just thought you might want to know...

VMFA ~ Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musee National Picasso, Paris

Now is the time to visit the newly renovated Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia. I was so happy to hear that in February 2011, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will host the most important exhibition in its history, Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris. VMFA is the only East Coast venue for the exhibition’s seven-city international tour. The exhibition, which will be on view from February 19 through May 15, 2011, is co-organized by the Musée National Picasso, Paris and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Interesting fact: It is rumored that Picasso’s first spoken word was, "piz," short for lápiz, the Spanish word for pencil. The first clue that this baby would grow up
to be an artist!
