Rotonda is an upscale deed restricted community near Englewood in Charlotte County, Florida. Commonly mistaken as “Rotunda,” this unique community was laid out in the shape of a wagon wheel, which can be seen when flying overhead. Closed-in freshwater canals help to create the Rotonda’s wheel design, and also separate the different subdivisions. At one time, Rotunda even boasted Ed McMahon as a homeowner in Oakland Hills, one of the community’s subdivisions.
Comprised of a number of subdivisions, homes in Rotonda were erected based on their location. The inner circle of Rotonda includes homes that are only 1,600 square feet or larger, and the outer circle has only homes 1,200 square feet or larger. These subdivisions are as follows:
Inside the Circle:
- Oakland Hills
- Pebble Beach
- Pinehurst
- Broadmoor
- Long Meadow
- White Marsh
- Pine Valley
Out of the Circle:
- Rotonda Heights
- Rotonda Meadows
- Rotonda Sands
- Rotonda Villas
- Rotonda West
- Wildflower
- Windward
The original plans for Rotonda by the developers were to build a separate golf course for each of these subdivisions. This plan never came through, but the Rotonda Golf and Country Club still has three courses with 72 holes for residents to enjoy. To the south of the community is a protected wetland where bald eagles, alligators, herons and egrets call their home. Power, phone and cable lines are all run underground in Rotonda, which is a major plus during Southwest Florida’s storm season. So, as you can see, the Rotonda is a well laid out community with a number of amenities you are sure to enjoy.
Currently, this is one of the hottest areas to build in, although there are many fine pre-existing homes for you to choose from. There are a number of model homes to visit if you decide to build, but many of the pre-existing homes in Rotonda are newer middle to upper class houses. Most of the homes in Rotonda are well over 2,000 square feet and are located on beautiful lakes. Many also have their own screened-in pools. There are also many beautiful condominiums and villas to choose from at more moderate prices.
Many of the Rotunda’s residents are seasonal, but this is a great community for retirees and families as well. Beach lovers and boating and fishing enthusiasts can make a quick trip to Englewood Beach for swimming, picnics and more.
